The Avenue

Friday 1st December 2017 saw the ‘proper’ opening of The Avenue following 10 weeks of road works. Just in time for the Lantern Parade from Moa Place to Colwell Common.

The road had never been made properly, didn’t have correct foundations, so the whole length had to be dug out nearly two feet deep and rebuilt. There were days of chaos with one way streets becoming two way, car park entrance turn into the exit and vehicles caught out by the ever changing signage. And so many sets of traffic lights!

All worth it. The Avenue is now a smooth and pot hole free thoroughfare. There are crossing places, or pinch points as I’m told they’re called, level and wider pavements and trees and shrubs in wooden tubs. All finished off with a very posh Freshwater Village sign at the top of the road.
